Get help in planning your college career
Choosing a college is often difficult if you don’t have any idea of what you want to do with your life. If you aren’t sure what you want to major in when you take off toward college, then consider some of the following before you ask your parents to fork over the cash for school.
As we all know, with the rising cost of an education, planning can make a great difference. Creatively planning is the key.
Many families start a savings plan. Some start by accumulating coins in a piggy bank or jug. Others, open a bank account and make regular deposits. It is amazing how fast pocket change can add up if set aside daily. Growing up we were encouraged to put half of our allowance away in a piggy bank before spending any. Once the piggy bank was full, we would make a trip to the bank to deposit the coin.
Scholarships are another area in which students can apply for monetary assistance. Scholarships come from a wide variety of sources There are volumes of resource books at the local litrary where you will find listings of scholarships. Some are specific to particular schools. Others require you to fall into a particular category, sometimes by race or income.
If you have not located a scholarship for which you qualify, then getting a part or fulltime job may be the answer to paying for some or all of your education. Local merchants are sometimes willing to with you to schedule hours around your class hours.
Working, while going to school is very common and can be a very effective way of paying for some or all of your educational needs. Cutting back on the number of classes at any given time, to fit in a work schedule can mean that graduation is a little further off. Seasonal jobs such as those over a summer or holiday time can make it easier in getting longer hours of pay. If you are fortunate enough to be in an area where tourist traffic is abundant, contact local merchants and apply.
Tuition assistance can be found, but takes some real hunting. Work programs are a big area in which students can trade time and skill for books, housing and/or meals.
